South Korea just recently held their 19th South Korean Presidential Elections, and they have picked a president. There were 15 candidates but 2 of them withdrew before the elections started. Before they decided hold the Presidential elections the last president, Park Geun-hye, was in a political scandal and was then impeached from being president on December 9, 2016. It wasn’t until March 10, 2017 is where she was officially removed from office. The top 5 candidates for this year are; Moon Jae-in, Hong Jun-pyo, Ahn Cheol-soo, Yoo Seung-min, and Sim Sang-jung.
Moon Jae-in is a Democrat, former chairman, member of the National Assembly for Busan Sasang District. He was part of the Democratic United Party presidential candidate in 2012, he’s the Governor of South Chungcheong, etc. The next candidate is Hong Jun-pyo, the Governor of Gyeongsang Province. Ahn Cheol-soo is the next candidate and he is People’s party candidate. Yoo Seung-min is a Bareun Party candidate and Sim Sang-Jung is a Chairwoman of the Justice Party.
The election is suppose to take place on or before December 20 , 2017, luckily the elections were held on May 9, 2017. Their last president, Park Geun-hye was the first woman to become president of South Korea and sadly she ruined her image from scandal. The voting for the recent election has already ended and the winner has been announced. The winner of the 19th South Korean Presidential Elections, is Moon Jae-in.
Many people in South Korea voted for him, even celebrities. Moon Jae-in had won the campaign with about 41.1% votes, which is more the 13 million votes. He’ll serve his 5 year term and he’ll probably leave office 2022. Through many hard ships of South Korea in the past year they’ll finally have another president.
