The 100 Book vs. The 100 Show

Branson Willis, Staff Writer

Books and films are usually somewhat different. The show and book on called The 100 have quite a few differences. The show and book are about 100 teenage prisoners being sent down to the Earth from space to see if it was survivable. Once they make it down they feel as if they whole world is theirs. That feeling was soon forgotten once they run into some angry natives. Almost throughout the whole show there is conflict between the grounders (the natives) and sky people (what the grounders call the 100). Although they have some similar things, the book and show are very different. From less or more characters, different character personalities, and much more. I’m going to compare the first book and the show.

In the book series the grounders aren’t fully introduced until the second book, however in the show they are fully introduced in the first season. Yet we do get hints of grounders in the first episode of the show and at the end of the first book. The grounders are introduced in different ways to. -Spoiler Alert- In the show they are introduced after Jasper (a character in the show) gets struck in the chest by a spear. However in the book the grounders are introduced when the group investigates around there area after a fire and finds a farm not too far from their camp.

Characters in the show and book are different to. In the show there are characters such as Raven, Murphy, Monty, Lincoln, Jasper, and Finn, who do not exist in the books. Instead in the books there are characters like Graham, Molly, Glass, Ash, and Luke. Octavia in the show has a boyfriend named Lincoln, although in the books Lincoln does not exist and she has a girlfriend named Anna. Bellamy and Clarke do not get together in the show, they haven’t so far, but in the book ‘Rebellion’ Bellamy proposes to Clarke. That’s a great thing for all the people who “ship” Bellarke (Clarke and Bellamy’s names together). In the show we do not know who the Blake sibling’s, Bellamy and Octavia, father is, but in the books we do. Their father is Thelonious Jaha, which makes them half siblings with Wells Jaha. -Spoiler Alert- In the show Wells dies in the third episode, “Earth Kills,” however in the book series Wells doesn’t die.

There is many differences in the show and the book, but there is almost always differences between a book and it’s film. Maybe when season five comes out in 2018 there will be more differences. For now we’re stuck with what we have.
