Haunted Places: The Villisca Murder House

Lizzie Richards, Staff Writer

In the quiet town of Villisca, Iowa , June 10 1912 eight people were murdered. The parents where first, there names were Josiah and Sarah moore. At the house there were six children, four of which belonged to Josiah and Sarah and the other two were friends of the children (Hider 1). Even though there were many suspects, the killer was never found, sadly.

Now the house is believed to be haunted by the victims . Everything from moving objects to haunting voices late into the night has led people to believe that the house is haunted. However, some believe that the house is not haunted. Berdine Miller says that as long as she has lived in the house from 1936 to 1942 she has never ever witnessed a strange or paranormal account.(“8 People Murdered in Their Beds in Villisca”). This still however does not convince me that the house is not haunted.

Based on the research I have conducted I am led to believe that the Villisca house is haunted. There are tours in the house, where if you are one of the many you are able to either allowed to witness or hear the accounts of the haunting. And if you go remember to always look behind you cause you could see the family of Ghosts.
