Sad Kitty: Luhu the Cat

Natalie Hernandez, Staff Writer

Adorable, happy, playful, curious, fluffy kittens. Yup pretty much sums up every kitten I’ve seen well… except Luhu. This kitten has been dubbed the saddest cat in the world but don’t let his looks fool you, he still plays games and is curious as any other cat/kitten. Luhu is a cat that looks like he needs constant love and hugs. He is a gray tabby who lives in Beijing, China, with his brothers Barher and Bardie.

Born on Aug. 12, 2012, Luhu suffered from early eye infections when he was 2 weeks old. His uncommon appearance has proven to be very popular on the internet, with over 73,000 followers sharing love and encouragement messages for the gray tabby on Liu’s Instagram page. But of course Luhu isn’t the only internet famous pet, for example the cat with eyebrows or fluffy best friends or even a cat with a mustache, but of course the saddest looking cat on the internet may have beat them all.

Just as Grumpy Cat looked very cranky but actually wasn’t, according to his owner Luhu despite his looks is quite a happy cat. In fact, as I mentioned before Luhu’s permanent sorrowful expression was caused by an eye infection but what I didn’t mention was how it was also the result of the surgery, to fix the eye infections Luhu had got major operation on his eyes at that time and the sequelae is affected by his vision, so Luhu always opens his eyes pretty hard when he needs to look at something.

Fun fact: In Chinese his name looks like 陸虎 Luhu means land rover, or ceramic pot. Luhu is a tabby cat, with the swirling patterns of his stripes and the “M” on his forehead. The tabby pattern naturally occurring feature that may be related to the coloration of the domestic cat’s direct ancestor the African Wildcat. Is it just me or does looking at Luhu’s sad eyes look sort of like Puss in Boots from that movie Shrek?
