China and Philippines Relations

The Philippines is a small country located in the western area of the Pacific Ocean. The Philippines’s capital is Manila, and the country consists of 7,641 islands, and is known for their agriculture. The country was named in honor of the king of Spain, King Philip II. When Ferdinand Magellan arrived in the Philippines it was the start of colonization. Spanish started to take over and the Philippines became part of the Spanish empire for more than 300 years. After World War II ended, the Philippines was finally recognized as an independent nation.
China is the strongest country in the world, and is the second largest state by land area. China also has the largest population with 1.381 billion people. In the early days, China used to be separated by dynasties, but that rule does not exist anymore. January 1, 1912, was when China became known as The Republic of China. Recently, China has been suffering from pollution and this is causing a lot to happen in the country.
The way I would describe the relationship between Philippines and China is a type of love-hate relationship. There were times where they were friendly with each other, but there were also times where that could’ve led to war. Recently, things aren’t going bad, but they have now formed an alliance. They have signed many agreements in the past, but luckily they haven’t gone to war because of these agreements. In June 1975, Philippines and China had maintained their close relationship, after over 34 years they still have a smooth relationship.
The Philippines and China have recently had an agreement regarding the South China Sea. The agreement was that China could go to the sea, but the Philippines still owned the sea. This started when China had claimed that the South China Sea was theirs, but in reality it belonged to the Philippines; they agreed on July 12 of 2016. Rodrigo Duterte, the current president of the Philippines made the decision of having an alliance with China. He had threatened to cut off the U.S military and even said, and I quote, “Prepare to leave the Philippines.” Ever since Duterte took office, the citizens have been worried about the future of Philippines. I hope that they solve everything and have a normal and peaceful relationship that doesn’t involve wars.
