Izabella Rodriguez, Staff Writer

Switched at Birth is an American drama series, and so far it has 5 seasons and 4 episodes on Netflix. Switched at Birth was first released on June 6th, 2011, and is available on FreeForm. The two languages they use on the series are English and sign language. Every time they use sign language, there are captions, so you can understand what they are saying.
Switched at Birth is a popular Netflix series about two young ladies who were literally switched at birth. Daphne Vasquez was supposed to have Bay Kennishs’ life. When the two girls were born the mothers took home the wrong daughter. A twist to the series is that Daphne lost her hearing at a really young age. One day in Bay’s chemistry class, Bay discovers that her blood type doesn’t match either of her parents. Official tests confirm that Bay is not her parents’ birth child. When the Kennish family meets Daphne and her mom, Regina, they realize that the girls were switched at birth. The Kennish family invites the Vasquez family to stay in the guest house to get to know each other better.
The popular Netflix series is one of my favorites. With all of the emotional and loving moments, it is my favorite. The two families start to argue when the girls think that their “mom” likes her real daughter more than her. The two girls have total different personalities, Bay is the artistic, musical one, and Daphne is the athlete. Which Bay’s “dad” always wanted. When the Vasquez family moved in to the guest house, the Kennish family learned sign language to be able to talk to Daphne.
This American- drama series is a must watch! With a rating of 5 stars. You get hooked, and since I have been watching I have learned a little sign language! It is so much fun watching the families grow together. If you have not seen Switched at Birth, your missing out.
